For todays blog, I interviewed one of the dancers of Moravian College's 2011 dance team. Her name is Laura Shearman, a sophmore at Moravian College. I've known her for two years, and she's an important dancer to the dance team. She has amazing choreographing ideas for the team and is an amazing role model for the other dancers on the team.
Name: Laura Shearman
Age: 19
Where are you originally from? Schnecksville, PA
How long have you been dancing? I have been dancing for 15 years.
What styles of dance do you do? I do ballet, tap, jazz, modern, pointe, and hip-hop.
What styles of dances are your favorite? My favorites are ballet and pointe.
Where did you start to dance? I started to dance at a studio called Dance Power when I was really little, but then that studio closed down, and I switched to Sue Albert's School of Dance. I was there for thirteen years.
What do you like most about dancing? The feeling of excitement when stepping onto the stage.
What made you start dancing? I went to my cousin's dance recital, I liked it so much and I decided I wanted to to take a dance class that following year.
How did you get involved with dancing on the Moravian Dance Team? When I toured Moravian, I asked my tour guides about the dance company because I knew they had one. They all said that the dance company was really good, and they put on a great spring recital, and that it was a lot of fun.
Do you find being on the dance team is difficult, while trying to keep up with your school work? Balancing both school work and dance team is hard at times, but I still find a way to make it work. I know I always take advantage of my weekends to get ahead of my school work, so that if I know that I have additional rehearsals(esp around recital time) then I know I won't have to stress out as much because I was able to make the most of my time.
Were you in any dance competitions? At Sue Albert's School of Dance, I was part of the competition team for three years, and then with Parkland High School Dance Team, I also participated in various competitions in there as well.
How Many recitals have you been in? And which were your favorite dances? I've been in sixteen recitals, and one showcase with the Parkland High School Dance Team, and roughly eighteen half time performances at the home basketball games at Parkland. I was on their dance team for three years. Out of all the dancing I have done, I cannot pick a favorite dance.
Is dance what her future plans hold? Or, is it a hobby?
